The ultimate skin rejuvenation and scar reduction treatment. Live human fibroblasts derived from (best not asked – foreskins) can heal scars and wounds and rejuvenate skin. These little cells have spent all of their life in a lab so their origin is purely historical. Fibroblasts are easy to grow. What the lab has succeeded in doing is creating these cells to be injected into virtually anybody without the need for a skin test. In immunological terms these cells are immature and do not express themselves – they cannot be rejected or create an allergic reaction.
Nevertheless they are active. Once injected into the skin they begin their healing activity. A cascade of reactions occurs and these little cells plus others begin to synthesise new collagen. These cells are intelligent; they are able to renew or replace existing skin structure with the aim of creating new skin.
The treated area will be a little red for about an hour. Sometimes this is all that happens, but some people also get a delayed reaction between days 7 and 11. The original injections sites flare up again and become red and swollen again, sometimes even itching. This is completely normal and does not signify a rejection reaction. After a few days the reaction settles.
Around the eyes the area can be slightly swollen for a week and the skin itself swollen for two weeks. This makes any lines look worse. No need for panic – the swelling will settle down and the lines will respond thereafter.
Results start to appear after about four weeks. Because the results are gradual and because we are so familiar with our faces (and also perhaps a bit negative about improvement) we do not always see the dramatic results that are possible with this treatment. This is why we take photos before the treatment.
Results continue to emerge over the following months, so repeat treatments are recommended after an interval of three to six. Over-treatment is not possible owing to the nature of the cells themselves, so repeat treatments can be performed at three months, especially in the case of scar tissue.
