Cosmelan Active

Cosmelan active is a one-off treatment for acne of mild to moderate severity. Like the Cosmelan depigmenting peel, it is in two stages both of which are equally important. The first phase of the treatment can take place after the initial consultation. A mask is applied to the face. This does not hurt, but needs to be on for three hours. The mask contains ingredients to kill the bacteria responsible for acne, to cleanse the pores and to exfoliate the skin and reduce surface oil. The mask looks more like foundation and is barely visible making the journey home acceptable. 

The mask is then washed off at home with the cleanser provided in the kit. Healing cream is applied and normal activities can be resumed.

The following day the maintenance phase is commenced. After cleansing the face the facial gel is applied. Any stubborn spots need to be treated with the aptly named “spot treatment”.

Some people find that their skin flakes a little at day 3 but others experience no down time  at all, making this an ideal treatment for busy people of all ages. Occasionally the acne flares up a little, but this is invariably banished by the treatment mask repeated after 2 – 4 weeks.

For most people, this is all that is needed to bring the breakouts under control. The maintenance creams must be followed since they stabilise the skin, prevent regrowth of the bacteria, maintain exfoliation and ensure that the skin retains its uniform colour and texture.
